Chapter 6: Sovereign Coronation

The Lost Moon: Rebirth of the Alpha Queen 6 of 6

Crimson dawn broke over the frost-covered white marble steps of the High Sanctuary. The bitter mountain wind carried the acrid smell of smoke from courtyard watchfires. The iron gate bolts blew outward with a thunderous bang, the heavy wooden doors splintering as Julian’s vanguard breached the perimeter.

Thea strode out onto the top terrace of the temple steps, flanked by Queen Valerie and the Council Elders. Julian stood thirty paces below at the head of five hundred armed Bloodfang warriors, his runic silver greatsword glowing in the dim light.

“Cut them down! Kill the false queen!” Julian barked, raising his blade.

Elder Kael stepped forward and struck the temple’s massive iron gong with a runic mallet. The deep bronze note echoed across the entire valley, vibrating in the chest of every wolf present. “By the Blood Moon Decree! Any warrior who interferes in the sacred duel shall be stripped of his beast and burned! Julian Thorne, face your challenger or forfeit your soul as a coward!”

The Bloodfang vanguard lowered their spears in immediate religious terror, stepping back rapidly to form an arena perimeter. Trapped by sacred law, Julian snarled and charged up the wide flight of fifty marble steps alone.

He shifted mid-stride into his eight-and-a-half-foot Berserker Slate Dire form, his massive forepaws gripping the greatsword. Thea transformed effortlessly into her ten-foot Eclipse Shadow Wolf, radiating a violet-gold heat haze that melted the morning frost off the stones.

Julian roared, executing a downward two-handed cleaving blow that split a three-foot marble slab in two. Silver sparks flew as steel struck stone. Thea sidestepped with supernatural speed, raking her claws across his armored shoulder, tearing through leather and flesh.

Julian lashed out with a frantic spinning backhand slash. Thea timed the counter perfectly. As the silver blade sang through the air, her massive jaws clamped shut directly onto the flat of the greatsword.

With three tons of bite force, she bit clean through the tempered silver blade. The ancestral Thorne greatsword shattered into a dozen flying shards.

Before Julian could recover from the shock, Thea lunged, slamming her ten-foot bulk into his chest and pinning him flat onto the frosted marble. Julian struggled frantically, trying to summon his Alpha command voice to rally his guards.

Thea released her Sovereign Command Aura directly into his brain—a crushing psychic roar that shattered his mental barriers and forced his beast to retreat violently into his human frame.

She shifted back into human form, standing tall in her black combat tunic, her eyes blazing molten violet. Drawing her right lunar bone dagger, she made a precise, shallow slice across the Alpha Pack Sigil tattooed into Julian’s throat.

The pack bond snapped with an audible spiritual reverberation.

Julian collapsed onto his knees in the bloody slush, gasping, weeping, and clawing at his bleeding throat. His power, title, and arrogance were completely destroyed. “Thea… please… have mercy…”

Thea looked down at him, her voice cold and devoid of pity. “You mistake my restraint for mercy, Julian. You threw me into Frostfang Chasm. Today, you take my place in the dirt.”

Golden sunlight flooded the valley as the High Council took the sacred stone dais. Heavy iron collars were snapped onto Julian and Selena, her broken wrist wrapped tightly in rough linen.

Elder Kael read the decree. “For high treason, illicit wolfsbane smuggling, and attempted murder of noble bloodlines, Julian Thorne and Selena of House Vane are stripped of all rank and condemned to permanent labor exile in the toxic Wolfsbane Marshes.”

Selena wept uncontrollably as guards dragged them toward the pariah carts. Julian stared blankly at the stones, a broken shell of an Alpha.

Queen Valerie stepped forward, holding the ancient Obsidian Sovereign Crown—a coronet of black volcanic glass embedded with pulsing violet moonstones. She placed the crown upon Thea’s braids. “Behold Thea Mooncrest, Supreme Sovereign Eclipse Alpha Queen of the United Northern and Central Packs!”

Five hundred Bloodfang warriors and all council lords dropped to both knees, throwing back their heads in a unified, earth-shaking victory howl.

As the celebratory howls faded into the crisp mountain air, a deep, unnatural vibration shuddered through the rock.

Queen Thea stepped to the balustrade, looking past Silverpine Valley toward the jagged southern peaks of Shadow Ridge. Three massive columns of black, oily smoke rose along the southern horizon. A low, guttural, jagged war horn—the dread signal of the exiled Southern Claw Warlord Legions—blasted across fifty miles of mountain wilderness.

Valerie stood beside Thea, her sword hand tightening on her hilt. “The Southern Warlords have smelled the blood of Julian’s vanguard. They are marching north.”

“Let them march. The north belongs to the Eclipse—and anyone who marches against my pack will find only blood and bone.”
