Chapter 4: The Unmasking & The Stolen Dowry

The Lost Moon: Rebirth of the Alpha Queen 4 of 6

The harsh midday sun beat down on the blinding white marble and black basalt of the High Solstice Arena. Churned golden sand lay stained with crimson puddles. Deafening cheers and jeers from three thousand pack wolves in the tiered stone galleries shook the air, mixed with the thick smells of iron, sweat, roasted meat, and adrenaline.

Julian Thorne stood at the elevated high council podium beside Selena, gloating with his arms outstretched in runic steel and blood-red silk. Down in the center ring, two eight-foot gray Dire Wolves—Torvald and Varek—stood wearing armored leather harnesses, their bloody muzzles hovering over three unconscious border-pack warriors.

Julian’s voice boomed across the colossal amphitheater. “The northern border is weak because its leadership is soft! House Thorne has the warriors, the fangs, and the territory to protect this realm. Who else among you dares contest our supremacy?”

Selena smiled behind an ivory-ribbed silk fan, murmuring to the council lords seated around them. “Strength is the only law the moon honors.”

A sudden breathless hush swept the arena.

The sharp thud of combat boots planting into the sand broke the silence. The veiled figure in midnight-black velvet had leaped twenty feet from the royal balustrade, landing squarely in the center ring, twenty paces from the two snarling dire beasts.

Julian barks a command over the murmuring crowd, pointing down into the pit. “Rip the intruder to shreds!”

Torvald and Varek lunged simultaneously from left and right, their four-inch claws extended to crush bone and tear flesh.

Thea stepped forward and released a sharp, localized pulse of her Sovereign Command Aura.

An invisible gravitational shockwave hit the two massive beasts. Their hind legs buckled instantly. Both eight-foot wolves slammed face-first into the churned sand, whimpering in primal terror, pinned to the ground by autonomic paralysis.

Before they could rise, Thea drew her dual lunar bone daggers. Spinning low to the sand, she sliced Torvald’s shoulder tendons with surgical precision, disabling his left leg. Pivoting sharply off her left heel, she delivered a brutal roundhouse kick straight into Varek’s jaw.

The bone snapped with a sickening crack. The kinetic force launched his four-hundred-pound shifted frame ten feet through the air, crashing heavily into the marble perimeter wall.

The entire fight took exactly seven seconds. The three thousand spectators went dead silent.

Thea walked calmly to the base of the High Council dais, directly beneath Julian and Selena. She gripped her filigree veil and velvet cloak, ripping them away with a sharp snap.

Her bronze skin, sharp cheekbones, tight warrior braids, and molten amber eyes caught the blazing sun.

Shouts of disbelief, gasps, and chairs overturning erupted across the council tiers. Selena dropped her silk fan, staggering backward against the stone rail. Her porcelain skin turned ash-gray. “No… It’s impossible… She died in the chasm!”

Thea pulled the documents and the crystal vial from her coat, hurling them onto Elder Kael’s council table. “I am Thea Mooncrest, sole blood heir of the Mooncrest lands. Julian Thorne did not inherit my territory—he threw me into Frostfang Chasm to steal it, while Lady Selena forged the council seals with ink paid for in smuggled wolfsbane!”

Elder Kael picked up the Illicit Wolfsbane Ledger and the Forged Mooncrest Land Deed. He inspected the authentic blood seal on Mooncrest archives against the forgery, his jaw tightening. He smashed his heavy iron gavel onto the stone. “By the sacred law of the High Council, the Mooncrest lands are restored in full! Alpha Julian’s claims are declared fraudulent and void!”

Julian vaulted the high council railing in blind fury, landing heavily in the arena sand ten paces from Thea. He drew his massive two-handed greatsword forged of runic steel and tempered silver. Veins bulged along his temples. His True Alpha aura flared out in jagged, ragged bursts of desperate pressure.

He pointed the glowing silver blade straight at Thea’s throat, his voice trembling with berserker rage. “You think a few scraps of parchment make you an Alpha? You survived the fall, bitch. You won’t survive the Blood Moon Rite! I challenge you to a blood duel to the death!”

Thea looked at the silver edge, a cold, lethal smirk touching her lips. “I accept. Prepare to bleed for every lie you ever told.”

“Tomorrow at sundown, on the sacred steps of the Goddess, your blood will wash away your insolence—or my name isn’t Julian Thorne!”
