Chapter 26: Prison Sentence for the Mistress
Inside the women’s correctional facility, Chloe Vance’s appeal for early parole was officially rejected by the state board.
Her attorney sat across from her in the visitation room, shaking his head.
“Miss Vance, the prosecution presented overwhelming evidence of your embezzlement, tax evasion, and conspiracy. The judge refused any reduction of your eight-year sentence.”
Chloe slammed her palms against the table, her eyes wide with desperation. “What about my brother Lucas?! He’s the Special Advisor to Chairwoman Natalie! He can sign a pardon or drop the charges!”
The attorney looked at her with pity. “Mr. Lucas Vance sent a formal message through our office. He asked me to inform you that he will cover your basic prison medical expenses, but he will not interfere with the law. He wants you to serve your full time and truly reflect on your sins.”
Chloe sank back into her chair, her face pale as ash.
She had betrayed her own brother, manipulated Ethan, and attempted to ruin Natalie for money and status. Now, her brother was a respected executive at the world’s most powerful consortium, while she was a convicted felon forgotten by the world.
“Eight years…” Chloe whimpered, burying her face in her hands. “Eight years of my youth wasted in a cell…”
The guard knocked on the door. “Time’s up. Back to the laundry room.”
Chloe dragged her feet back down the cold hallway, her tears dropping onto the concrete floor.
