Chapter 18: Chloe’s Secret Betrayal
Lucas gestured to the large LED screen in the lobby, displaying bank statements and wire transfer records detailing Evelyn’s illegal withdrawals.
“These funds belonged to Carter Group’s creditors,” Lucas explained to the reporters. “By concealing these stolen assets, Mrs. Evelyn Carter is an accomplice to corporate embezzlement and tax evasion.”
The reporters instantly turned their cameras toward Evelyn, shouting questions:
“Mrs. Carter! Did you embezzle three million dollars from your son’s company?”
“Are you using public drama to cover up your financial crimes?”
Evelyn scrambled up from the floor in panic, covering her face with her fur coat. “No! That’s not mine! Chloe told me to transfer that money!”
“Chloe Vance has already signed a full confession,” Lucas added coldly. “She admitted that you two shared forty percent of the embezzled funds.”
Two police officers stepped forward from the entrance, arresting Evelyn on the spot for financial fraud.
“No! Let me go! Natalie! You ungrateful monster!” Evelyn screamed as she was hauled away in handcuffs.
Up on the top floor of Sinclair Tower, Natalie stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, watching the police car drive away below.
Lucas walked into the office and bowed. “Chairwoman, Evelyn Carter and Chloe Vance have both been processed. The court auction for Carter Group’s headquarters building will take place at 2 PM today.”
Natalie swirled her coffee cup softly. “Acquire the building. Convert it into a charity center for underprivileged female entrepreneurs.”
“Understood,” Lucas smiled. “Ethan Carter’s legacy will officially become a sanctuary for women pursuing their dreams.”
