Dumping My Quarterback After I Slimmed Down 1 of 6
Chapter 1 - Header Banner
Chapter 1 • Visual Header

The screeching of sheared aluminum bolts tore through the 5000K halogen glare. Levi’s Stadium was a blinding wash of sound and light until the forty-foot lighting truss snapped. The ozone scent of ruptured electrical cables seared the air. In the chaos of the Super Bowl halftime rehearsal, Chloe Mitchell’s instinct didn’t falter. She drove her arms up, locking her elbows in a kinetic thrust that launched rookie flyer Sarah completely clear of the drop zone. Then came the crushing concussive blackness.

Seamlessly, the roar of the stadium collapsed into the freezing silence of damp, mildewed concrete. The blinding halogens faded to dim morning light filtering through steel I-beams.

The concrete beneath her palms was damp, smelling of oxidized aluminum and old popcorn oil. She didn’t gasp; gasping spiked cortisol and starved the diaphragm. Instead, she locked her ribs, drew four counts of cold Ohio air through her nose, and held it against her sternum. Ninety-two beats per minute. Subcutaneous bloat dragging across her lats. Sluggish plantar fascia. But when she flexed her toes inside her worn cross-trainers, the neural feedback was instantaneous—the proprioceptive mapping of twenty-eight years hadn’t faded. She was 17 again, locked inside a compromised 240-pound frame, wearing a constricting polyester fleece hoodie that stuck to her damp skin. Her VO2 max was shot, her thoracic spine tight with systemic inflammation. Yet, a calm, clinical somatic assessment confirmed no structural ligament tears. The neural motor pathways of an NFL-level master choreographer were 100% intact.

The rhythmic, echoing *clack-clack-clack* of football cleats descended the concrete ramp. Everett Hayes stepped into the low 60-cycle electrical hum of the stadium transformers, exuding casual, parasitic arrogance in his varsity jacket #7. His expensive sandalwood cologne clashed with the wet dust.

“Mitchell,” Everett said, tossing an empty folder against the cinderblocks. “Tell me Henderson’s kinematics lab is done. My dad checked my portal this morning. If I’m below a two-five, he pulls the Denali. And if he pulls the Denali, I can’t sneak you into the bonfire this weekend.”

Chloe looked at his right shoulder. The slight forward roll of his deltoid. The lazy weight shift onto his back heel. A boy built on booster praise and borrowed brains. He treated her affection as leverage, a tool to extract forty hours of advanced calculus derivations.

“It’s done,” Chloe said. Her voice didn’t waver. It was flat, resonant, and entirely stripped of the trembling deference he was used to.

She reached into her bag and retrieved the crisp 24-pound bright white bond paper of the 12-page typed manuscript: *Rotational Kinematics and Moment of Inertia in Athletic Trajectories*. She read his postural weaknesses—his flinching lip, his unearned entitlement. Smoothly, without breaking eye contact, she stepped into his space and slipped his custom brass Zippo lighter directly from his breast pocket.

The metallic strike and sulfur smell of the lighter flared in the dim alcove. Chloe held the manuscript to the yellow-blue flame. It caught instantly.

Everett screamed in panicked disbelief as the paper burned. “Are you insane?! That’s my eligibility! Henderson collects that in twenty minutes!”

Chloe watched the black ink derivations curl into black ash between his cleats. “Then you’d better start writing, Everett. Calculate your own angular momentum. We are done.”

She pivoted on the balls of her feet, stepping cleanly into the autumn morning light, leaving Everett clutching handfuls of smoldering ash in the dark.

The Main Athletic Corridor outside the Gold Arena and Varsity Lockers buzzed with the hum of fluorescent ceiling tubes reflecting off waxed yellow linoleum. The sweet scent of cafeteria cinnamon rolls hung in the air, punctuated by locker doors slamming shut. The metallic clink of chrome sprint spikes dangling against Tyler Reed’s shoulder rang out as he leaned against locker #114 in charcoal compression gear.

The double doors smashed open. Everett charged through, face flushed purple, lunging to grab Chloe’s right forearm in front of fifty students.

Chloe did not flinch or pull back. She stepped inside his center of mass, dropped her hips two inches, and snapped her radial bone upward against his thumb joint. Everett’s grip exploded free with a sharp pop of air. He stumbled sideways, crashing heavily into the trophy glass. The hallway dropped into a sudden acoustic shock.

Selina Vance approached in her electric-blue varsity warm-up, surrounded by cheer sycophants. She opened her mouth to drop a loud public insult about Chloe’s weight, but Chloe turned her emerald eyes onto Selina—an ancient, dissecting gaze that took in Selina’s internally rotated shoulders, hyperextended left knee, and structural insecurity. The words died in Selina’s throat. She took an involuntary step back.

Tyler Reed witnessed the biomechanical wrist escape and the silent staredown. His sharp gray eyes narrowed with fierce intrigue. He saw through social masks straight into athletic mechanics, and what he saw in Chloe was elite.

Before anyone could speak, the school PA system crackles with Selina’s pre-recorded broadcast: *”Mandatory Varsity Pre-Conditioning Assessment and Live Weigh-In today at 3:30 PM in the Gold Arena.”*

Everett glared with spiteful anticipation, but Tyler watched Chloe’s mouth curl into a sharp, confident smirk. Chloe met Tyler’s gaze for a single electric second, acknowledging a fellow apex predator, before striding toward the science wing. The reign of the 240-pound victim was over.
