Chapter 11: Ascension into the Heavens
The next morning at dawn, a phenomenon occurred that mortals would recount in epic poetry for millennia.
The entire sky above Mount Parnassus turned into a sea of liquid gold and iridescent pink. From behind the clouds descended a magnificent chariot forged of pure solar crystal, pulled by four majestic winged steeds with manes of golden fire.
The sun chariot landed softly on the mountain peak.
Apollo stood at the helm, holding out his hand to Irene.
Irene wore a gown woven from threads of pure morning starlight, gifted by the nymphs of the sacred springs. She looked back one last time at the city of Athens, where thousands of commoners waved silk scarves and shouted blessings.
“Are you ready, my Queen?” Apollo asked, his voice filled with profound warmth and devotion.
“With you, Alex… I am ready for eternity,” Irene answered, placing her hand in his.
As soon as her foot stepped onto the solar chariot, her mortal body was washed in divine nectar. Her senses expanded—she could hear the music of the spheres, feel the warmth of every sunbeam shining across the globe, and see the infinite beauty of the cosmos.
The golden steeds neighed, spreading their wings of fire, and bounded upward into the sky.
Higher and higher the chariot soared, parting the clouds and leaving a rainbow trail of light across the Mediterranean Sea.
They flew past the mortal realm, past the clouds of thunder and rain, until they reached the golden gates of Mount Olympus—the high abode of the immortals.
The gates opened wide. Standing in two rows to welcome them were the Olympian gods—Athena carrying her olive branch, Hermes bowing with his winged hat, and Artemis smiling brightly at her brother’s chosen bride.
At the highest pavilion stood Zeus and Hera, looking down with majestic approval.
“Welcome home, Lord Apollo,” Zeus’s voice echoed like gentle thunder. “And welcome, Lady Irene… the mortal whose pure heart brought warmth back to the Sun.”
