Chapter 6: The Sovereign’s Judgment

Scorned Slave: Awakening the Son of Zeus 6 of 6

At the end of the Bridge of Tribulation, the entrance to Stage Four lay open. Golden lightning coiled lazily around Alexios’s bare forearms and chest. His pierced flesh and broken ribs had fully knitted together, reformed into flawless, diamond-hard muscle forged by the sky itself.

Valerius Aurelius scrambled backward across the blood-slicked marble, his face pale as chalk, his chest heaving in panicked hyperventilation. The arrogant noble realized his doom was absolute.

In a desperate, shrieking panic, Valerius channeled every last drop of his remaining solar ichor into his final defense. He activated his Sunburst Aegis—a glowing, spherical barrier of solid golden energy. “My father will exterminate every slave in the empire!” Valerius screamed from inside the sphere. “You cannot touch me!”

Alexios executed the Heavenly Aegis Stride. He dissolved into golden afterimages, moving faster than human sight, and materialized instantly inside the boundary of Valerius’s barrier.

Alexios delivered a single, open-palmed backhand slap, infusing the strike with concentrated celestial voltage.

The hand connected directly with the inner wall of the Sunburst Aegis. The divine barrier shattered like fragile crystal with a high-pitched chime. The concussive shockwave traveled cleanly through the breaking light and connected with Valerius’s jaw. A sickening crack of bone echoed over the abyss. Valerius’s jaw shattered, teeth flew into the air, and the golden heir spun violently backward, his armor crumpling into scrap as he crashed into the stone rubble, bleeding and completely unconscious.

Alexios looked down with absolute coldness at the ruined noble. “You told me iron attracts lightning. You were right. But you forgot that the master of lightning decides who burns.”

He turned his back on the broken heir and stepped through the archway into the Apex Chamber of the Thunder Throne.

The vast circular temple was open to the storm-swept heavens, flanked by twelve colossal marble statues of the Olympian pantheon. Alexios ascended the grand hundred-step staircase of white Olympian marble. At the summit sat the Throne of Thunder, carved from pure celestial lodestone. Floating above the central altar was a crystal chalice filled with a glowing, liquid-sunlight nectar: the Golden Ambrosia Elixir.

Encircling the altar was a deadly vortex of Primordial Judgment Lightning—cosmic arcs designed to vaporize any false bloodline that dared approach.

Alexios stepped past the threshold without breaking stride.

The cosmic arcs did not strike. Instead, the judgment lightning dropped to the stone floor, weaving and purring gently around his ankles and wrists like loyal celestial hounds greeting their rightful king. Alexios reached out and took the crystal chalice into his calloused hands.

As his fingers closed around the vessel, the thousand-year-old bronze bells atop Mount Caelum tolled in cosmic harmony. Deep, resonant waves of thunder vibrated through the bedrock of the world, shaking every marble palace in the empire of Olivien.

“The throne remembers!” Volkan roared tearfully in the Soul Sea. “By Hephaestus’s forge, the true king has taken the cup!”

“Hurry, Alexios,” Minerva warned. “The chime has broken the outer seals. The High Houses are entering the summit.”

The massive exterior gates of the temple blasted open.

Led by Patriarch Tiberius Aurelius, the High Elders of the Five Houses, accompanied by hundreds of patricians, legion commanders, and imperial inquisitors, stormed into the apex chamber. They had come to celebrate Valerius’s triumph.

Instead, they found Valerius battered in a pool of his own blood, whimpering in the dirt. Upon the Dais of Thunder stood the branded stable slave, radiating golden lightning and holding the supreme celestial panacea.

Patriarch Tiberius roared in apocalyptic, murderous rage. The veins bulged on his forehead as he summoned his Tier 3 Solar Domain—a colossal lance of white-hot solar plasma designed to vaporize the slave instantly. “Insolent slave vermin! I will flay you alive! I will burn your bloodline from the earth!”

Alexios stood motionless. He raised his right fist, holding aloft his broken iron slave chains.

“By the sacred blood of the founding gods,” Alexios commanded, his voice shaking the temple walls, “I invoke the Gladiator Trial Compact! Any slave who conquers an Olympian Trial is granted unconditional emancipation, immunity from blood feuds, and the status of an Imperial Freeman!”

The ancient arrays of Mount Caelum ignited in response to the sacred oath. Blinding golden runes flared across the temple floor, erupting upward to form an impenetrable Divine Aegis Barrier between Alexios and the enraged Patriarch. Tiberius’s solar lance struck the golden wall and dissipated harmlessly into weak steam.

The High Inquisitor of Olivien stepped forward, terrified of celestial retribution, gripping Tiberius’s arm and warning him that violating the Compact on the summit would cause the mountain itself to obliterate House Aurelius.

“Touch me if you dare, Patriarch,” Alexios’s voice echoed through the divine barrier. “Let the whole empire see House Aurelius break the sacred law of the gods. When we meet again, it will not be on your terms.”

With supreme dignity, Alexios turned and descended the rear mountain staircase into the swirling mist, leaving the entire aristocracy frozen in impotent, humiliated fury.

Midnight claimed the Undercity by the time Alexios slipped past the chaotic city patrols and returned to the squalid laundry barracks.

He knelt beside the freezing flagstones. Elena lay at the brink of death, the black frost veins having fully encircled her throat, her breathing shallow and ragged. Alexios gently supported her head and poured the glowing Golden Ambrosia Elixir past her pale lips.

An explosion of warm, golden sunlight erupted from Elena’s chest. The black crystalline Frost-Blight of the Asphodel hissed violently, dissolving into harmless white steam. Her pale skin flushed with healthy, youthful radiance. The cloudiness vanished from her hazel eyes, her frozen meridians completely restored in seconds.

Elena opened her eyes. She touched his cheek, weeping with profound relief, recognizing the awakened golden divinity humming beneath his skin. “You brought back the dawn, my son… but the Five Houses will never rest. Your father fought them alone…”

“My father was alone, Mother,” Alexios said, his voice resonant and steady as thunder. “But I carry the thunder, the anvil, and the sword. They built their empire on our blood. Now, I will tear it down.”

Under Master Volkan’s guidance, Alexios moved Elena out of the barracks to the hidden, secure sanctuary of the Catacombs of Hephaestus deep beneath the slums.

By dawn, across the upper city, royal criers posted imperial decrees on every golden pillar: A bounty of ONE MILLION GOLD on the rogue branded slave who defied House Aurelius. The Grand Coliseum summons all champions.

High above the slums, atop a jagged basalt rooftop, Alexios donned a dark, hooded mantle forged in the Catacombs that concealed his face. Golden sparks crackled across his knuckles as he looked down upon the glittering, corrupt expanse of the Grand Coliseum, ready to make them bleed.
