Volume 1 Chapter 6 — The King Reclaims His Crown

Silence hung over the mountain finish plaza as the matte-black Phantom GT glided to a halt in front of the winner’s podium.

Victor Cross stood near the barricades, his face pale and contorted with fury. “This is a setup! The driver cheated! I demand an inspection of that car!”

The driver’s door of the Phantom GT opened slowly.

The driver stepped out into the bright floodlights. He reached up with both hands, unbuckled the dark racing helmet, and lifted it off his head.

Gasps of utter shock reverberated through the crowd.

Elena Vane took a step forward, tears glinting in her eyes as she looked at her husband.

“Chase…” she whispered.

Chase Walker tossed the helmet onto the hood of his car, his dark eyes locking directly onto Victor Cross.

“It’s been five years, Victor,” Chase said, his voice ringing loud and clear across the plaza. “Did you really think your rigged races and corporate extortion would stay buried forever?”

Victor backed away in terror. “Chase Walker… You… you were supposed to be ruined!”

At that moment, a convoy of federal enforcement vehicles pulled into the plaza, led by Chase’s legal representative, Marcus Vance. Marcus walked up to Victor and handed him a federal freeze order.

“Victor Cross,” Marcus declared. “By order of the Securities and Exchange Commission and the High Court, all assets belonging to Cross Motors have been frozen due to forensic evidence of market manipulation, illegal gambling, and corporate sabotage provided by the Walker Apex Syndicate.”

Marcus turned to the crowd. “And Mr. Chase Walker is the sole founder and majority owner of the Walker Apex Syndicate.”

The crowd erupted into wild applause. Corporate leaders who had spent the evening courting Victor instantly turned their backs on him as federal agents escorted Victor away in handcuffs.

Chase walked over to Elena, standing before her under the starry night sky.

Elena looked up at him, a radiant smile breaking across her face. “You were the Drift King all along… and the founder of Walker Apex.”

Chase smiled gently, reaching out to hold her hand. “I promised I’d fix it, Elena. Vane Dynamics is safe. And I’m not hiding anymore.”

As camera flashes lit up the night sky, Chase and Elena stood side-by-side at the peak of Dragon’s Crest Pass—the king had reclaimed his crown, and their new story was just beginning.
