Volume 1 Chapter 4 — The Return of the Phantom Racer
The dark-visored racer walked straight toward Elena Vane. Without speaking a word, he reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a signed driver authorization form stamped with the official seal of Vane Dynamics, handing it to the race marshal.
“Driver registered for Vane Dynamics,” the marshal announced over the loudspeaker, his voice trembling slightly. “Vehicle entry: Phantom GT.”
Elena stepped closer to the mysterious driver, her heart pounding in her chest. There was something intensely familiar about his posture, his calm demeanor amid the chaos, and the piercing gaze behind the dark helmet visor.
“Who are you?” Elena asked softly, searching his hidden face. “Why are you driving for Vane Dynamics?”
The driver leaned in slightly, his voice low and distorted by the helmet comms. “You fixed my life five years ago, Elena. Tonight, I fix yours.”
Elena’s breath caught in her throat. Those words… only one person could have spoken them.
Before she could process her shock, the marshal called both drivers to the staging line.
The bright yellow hypercar and the matte-black Phantom GT pulled up side-by-side at the starting arch of Dragon’s Crest Pass. Below them stretched five miles of dark, winding mountain road shrouded in mist, illuminated only by high-intensity spotlights mounted along the cliffside barricades.
In the yellow hypercar, Duke “The Anvil” Mercer revved his engine aggressively, sending flames shooting from his quad exhausts. He glanced over at the matte-black coupe, flashing a menacing grin.
Inside the Phantom GT, Chase Walker sat calmly, his gloved hands gripping the suede steering wheel. His mind was in total harmony with the machine beneath him. Five years of quiet countryside life had not dulled his instincts; it had perfected them.
A stunning model stepped between the two cars holding a checkered flag high in the air.
Three red lights flashed on the starting arch.
