Chapter 2: The Sister’s Strike & Ironclad Proof
Upstairs in the biometric AV control room, two security guards lay unconscious on the thick geometric carpet. The hum of server cooling fans filled the dimly lit suite as Lucas Vance, wearing a tailored black Saint Laurent smoking jacket and matte-black leather boots, typed furiously across a military-grade carbon terminal. Her sharp honey-blonde hair was pulled back into a high tactical ponytail. She bypassed the venue’s enterprise firewalls with the effortless swagger of a cyber-warfare operative treating a billion-dollar security grid like a toddler’s puzzle.
Down in the massive ballroom, a hushed panic had set in. The lead guard’s massive hand was mere inches from Selena’s black crocodile clutch.
Suddenly, the venue lights plunged to absolute zero. A seismic sub-bass rumble shook the floorboards, vibrating through the soles of every bespoke shoe in the room.
All twelve 8K curved screens mounted around the grand space violently glitched, their static tearing through the darkness before flooding the room with a massive, brilliantly glowing brushed platinum Vance Dragon watermark.
Lucas’s voice crackled, cool and amused, over the encrypted comms tucked into Selena’s ear. “Master feed locked, Big Sis. Showtime.”
The giant dragon insignia held the room hostage for a breathless second before dissolving into ultra-high-definition 4K video. The surveillance footage was unmistakably clear: the Baccarat Hotel penthouse, exactly forty-eight hours earlier. The audio blasted crystal-clear over the room’s forty-foot acoustics, drowning out the murmurs of the elite crowd.
On the massive screens, Arthur lounged across a velvet sofa, a crystal tumbler in his hand. Selene Thorne sat on his lap, giggling maliciously as she handled the very identical ruby necklace she had just claimed was stolen.
Arthur’s voice boomed from the speakers, dripping with drunken arrogance. “Fault-based divorce, zero alimony. That’s the play. A penniless orphan can’t afford top attorneys. We frame her, I take the remaining liquid capital, and Sterling Apex gets to survive the quarter.”
Dead silence crashed over the ballroom. Crystal glasses slipped from limp fingers and shattered on the polished floor.
At the podium, Arthur froze. The sweat on his forehead seemed to turn to ice. His mouth hung open, his hazel eyes darting wildly in the sudden, glaring light of his own exposed treachery. Beside him, Selene Thorne turned ghost-white. The crimson dress that had looked so commanding mere moments ago now seemed like a bloody spotlight illuminating her guilt. She clutched the floral pedestal, gasping for air as collective horror rippled through the audience.
High above in the AV control suite, Lucas tapped a single key, switching the broadcast.
The screens flashed, replacing the penthouse surveillance with a multi-pane forensic accounting dossier. The top corner bore the terrifying, indisputable watermark of Vance Sovereign Intelligence.
Red wireframe transaction routes populated the screens, connecting offshore shell accounts in a sprawling, undeniable web. The numbers were massive, bold, and inescapable: $45,200,000 systematically siphoned from Sterling Apex operational reserves over the past eight months. The final receiving account blinked in stark white text: “Thorne Dynasty Holdings LLC,” domiciled in the Cayman Islands. Directly beneath it, Selene Thorne’s passport ID and biometric signature verified the ownership.
Table 2 erupted into chaos. Manhattan DA William Sterling-Hayes pulled a leather-bound docket from his jacket, his stern face hardening into the look of a prosecutor who just watched a felony wire fraud case wrap itself in a bow.
“That’s treasury money!” screamed one of the Sterling Apex independent board members, surging up from his chair. “He’s been robbing the firm blind to fund his mistress!”
Wall Street bank directors jumped up, screaming at Arthur. The room spiraled into absolute pandemonium. The press photographers realized the true story had just broken. They abandoned Table 14 and stampeded toward the main stage, their strobe flashes blinding Arthur and Selene as they shouted rapid-fire questions about felony larceny and SEC violations.
Arthur hyperventilated. He tugged violently at his choking Brioni collar, his chest heaving as the walls closed in. He looked wildly around for his private security guards, but the hulking men had stepped back, refusing to protect a man whose federal indictment was currently broadcasting in 8K resolution.
From Table 14, Selena Vance rose.
She moved with effortless, regal grace, smoothing the obsidian silk of her gown. The panicked crowd, recognizing the shift in power, instantly parted in awe, opening a clear path to the main stage. She glided forward without haste, her icy-blue eyes radiating sovereign authority, locking onto the pathetic, disheveled figure of her husband.
She ascended the stage steps, her heels clicking softly against the wood, the sound carrying an undeniable weight of execution. She stopped exactly three feet from the sweating, cornered Arthur.
Her lips curved into a lethal, quiet smile.
“Did you really think your little games would go unpunished, Arthur?”
