Chapter 1: The Blood Moon Ambush

Blood Moon Betrayal: The Scorned Heiress’s Total Retribution 1 of 6

The blood-red lunar eclipse hung over Central Park South like a freshly severed artery, casting its crimson bleed across the monolithic glass panels of the Glass Pavilion. Inside the Grand Ballroom, the city’s ultra-wealthy elite gathered under suspended Austrian crystal chandeliers, the clink of crystal champagne flutes and popping flashbulbs drowning out the low hum of manicured gossip. The annual Blood Moon Charity Gala was Manhattan’s premiere theater of high society, and tonight, Arthur Sterling had decided to turn it into an execution.

Arthur strutted down the black carpet, his navy Brioni three-piece suit cut to perfection, a rose-gold Rolex Daytona gleaming under the chandelier lights as he obsessively adjusted his cuffs. Beside him, Selene Thorne paraded in a crimson backless satin gown dripping in leased diamonds. Her heavily contoured cheekbones and predatory hazel-green eyes swept the crowd, an emerald choker pressing tightly against her throat. The social climber was playing the role of the undisputed queen, ignoring the high-society whispers and vicious gossip swirling in their wake. They moved with the manic narcissism of those drunk on false leverage, desperate to look like Wall Street royalty.

At Table 14, seated quietly in unbranded obsidian silk, Selena Vance watched them.

There was zero hurt or panic in Selena’s piercing icy-blue eyes. Her raven hair cascaded in soft waves against her open back, her posture a picture of lethal poise. She observed Arthur and Selene as lab specimens sealing their own doom. The public snub was intentional, the opening gambit in Arthur’s public frame-up. Selena’s fingers lightly traced the discreet platinum signet ring on her hand. Her cold, calculated, clinical detachment remained completely intact.

“Look at her,” Selene whispered loudly, making sure the hedge fund billionaires and old-money dowagers nearby could hear. “Sitting there like she still belongs.”

Arthur chuckled, a loud, commanding sound designed for the press cameras. “Pity is a dangerous thing, my dear. I brought her into this world, and now she’s learning the true cost of her incompetence.”

Selena did not flinch, whine, or raise her voice. Her movements were economical, deliberate, and sovereign. She took a slow sip of her champagne, feeling the condensation on the crystal flute. The trap was set, and Arthur was marching directly into it, completely blind to the multi-trillion dollar balance sheets of the Vance Sovereign Conglomerate she secretly controlled.

Selene Thorne took the main gala podium, the spotlight catching the leased diamonds at her throat. The crowd hushed in anticipation of the two-and-a-half-million-dollar “Heart of the Eclipse” ruby auction reveal. A thick velvet cloche rested on a crystal pedestal before her.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Selene cooed, her high-pitched, performative voice echoing through the 8K ultra-HD wrap-around projection screens. “We are here tonight to celebrate generosity. To unveil a piece of history.”

With a theatrical flourish, Selene gripped the handle and lifted the velvet cloche.

The pedestal was completely empty.

Selene unleashed a staged gasp directly into the live microphone. The sound ripped through the ballroom acoustics. She stumbled back in mock horror, her crimson dress shimmering under the red light.

“It’s gone!” she cried out. “The ruby… someone has stolen the Heart of the Eclipse!”

The shockwave rippled through Manhattan’s elite zero-point-zero-one percent. Manhattan DA William Sterling-Hayes frowned sharply from the VIP tier. SEC enforcement counsel exchanged tight whispers. Reporters and Sterling Apex board members turned their collective gaze toward the podium as Selene raised a trembling finger, pointing directly at Table 14.

“Her!” Selene shrieked, malicious smirks barely hidden beneath her performative victimhood. “Selena Vance! She took it! I saw her near the vault earlier. She’s desperate to cover her massive gambling debts!”

The ballroom erupted. Flashbulbs strobed in blinding bursts.

Arthur Sterling seized the stage microphone from Selene, his darting hazel eyes locking onto his wife with manic, condescending fury. He amplified the smear, his voice booming to justify the immediate fault-based divorce he had meticulously planned.

“This is an absolute disgrace!” Arthur roared, his forehead gleaming with sweat. “For three years, I have tolerated this parasite! I took a penniless orphan out of the gutter out of the kindness of my heart. I gave her my name, my home, and my protection. And this is how she repays me? By robbing a charity blind to fund her degenerate vices!”

The cameras whirred, capturing every syllable of Arthur’s marital denunciation. He turned toward the perimeter of the ballroom, his voice cracking with theatrical outrage.

“Security! I demand that gala security conduct an immediate, public bag and body search on that woman! Do it on the live feed! Let the world see what a thief looks like!”

Selena remained completely motionless. She did not rise to defend herself. She did not issue a defensive plea. She simply watched Arthur’s manic sweat and irreversible descent with the icy gaze of an apex predator waiting for the trap to spring.

Four armed private security guards detached from the walls, their rhythmic footsteps heavy and synchronized as they surrounded Table 14. They closed off all sightlines and exits, their hands resting on their utility belts. The lead guard, a hulking man in a tight black suit, stepped forward, his massive hand reaching toward Selena’s black crocodile clutch resting on the linen table.

The entire ballroom held its collective breath.

Selena smoothly took a leisurely sip of her champagne, savoring the crisp chill. She set the crystal flute down with absolute precision, then checked her brushed platinum watch.

She tilted her head slightly, her lips barely moving as she whispered into her diamond collar transceiver.

“Right on time.”

Instantly, the massive ballroom lights flickered and died. A deep audio hum vibrated through the floorboards, rattling the crystal flutes. High above the panicked crowd, all twelve of the 8K wrap-around displays violently glitched, the live feed tearing apart before flooding the darkness with a massive, brilliantly illuminated brushed platinum dragon watermark.
