Volume 1 Chapter 3: Private Consultation & Forbidden Surge
Night had fallen over the metropolis, turning the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the 80th-floor penthouse into black mirrors reflecting the flickering sea of city lights below.
It was 7:30 PM. The corporate headquarters of Vance Global had emptied hours ago, leaving the sprawling executive tower enveloped in absolute, heavy silence.
Evelyn Thorne stood in the center of the dark executive suite, her coat over her arm, her briefcase clutched in her hand. Her body was exhausted, her lower back aching with a dull, throbbing tightness that had steadily built throughout ten hours of relentless corporate restructuring meetings.
She walked over to the private executive elevator doors and pressed her dark glass security pass against the digital scanner.
*BEEP-BEEP.*
A harsh red light flashed across the interface. The digital display read: *[ACCESS DENIED – EXECUTIVE LOCKOUT IN EFFECT]*.
Evelyn’s chest tightened in disbelief. She tapped the card again, harder this time. The reader emitted another low, mocking error chime.
“The executive elevator code was overridden at nineteen hundred hours, Ms. Thorne.”
The deep, quiet baritone came from behind her.
Evelyn turned around to see a door at the far end of the penthouse sliding open. Ethan Vance stepped into the subtle glow of the suite’s floor lights. He had shed his bespoke suit jacket and dark silk tie. His dark dress shirt was unbuttoned at the throat, the sleeves neatly rolled up to his elbows, revealing muscular forearms lightly shaded with dark hair. His silver rimless glasses were tucked into his breast pocket, revealing steel-blue eyes that burned with raw, unadulterated focus.
“You locked me in?” Evelyn demanded, her voice echoing off the glass walls. “Ethan, this is kidnapping!”
“This is medical compliance,” Ethan corrected calmly, walking toward her with unhurried, measured strides. “I gave you a direct command this morning to report for your follow-up therapy at seven-thirty. Instead, I watched on security monitors as you attempted to sneak out the side exit.”
Evelyn flushed with heat, taking an instinctual step backward. “I am the Lead Creative Director of Apex! I am not a patient you can keep on a leash!”
Ethan stopped two feet in front of her. Without his glasses, his features were impossibly sharp, his predatory intensity amplified tenfold.
“Behind closed doors, you are my patient,” Ethan said, his voice dropping into a raspy, commanding register that sent a shiver straight down her spine. “And when we are alone in this penthouse, you call me Ethan. Put your bag down.”
Evelyn stood her ground, her hazel eyes flashing with defiant defiance. “No.”
Ethan didn’t raise his voice. He simply stepped forward, took her briefcase from her fingers, and set it on a nearby leather armchair with slow, deliberate care. Then, his hands rested lightly on her hips, his broad palms framing her waist through the smooth silk of her blouse.
Evelyn gasped, her lower abdomen instantly seizing in a tight, defensive knot.
“Look at you,” Ethan whispered, his hands steady, holding her pinned in place with gentle, absolute strength. “You’re trembling. Your pelvic hypertonia is flaring so severely you can barely keep your spine straight. How long were you planning to endure this pain before asking for help?”
Evelyn looked away, her breath coming in short, ragged hitches. “I don’t need your pity…”
“It isn’t pity, Evelyn,” Ethan growled softly, leaning down until his forehead almost touched hers. “It’s ownership. Now move.”
He guided her through the open door into his private executive rest wing.
Unlike the cold obsidian aesthetic of the main office, this private suite was bathed in warm, soft ambient lighting. It was equipped with an ultra-modern biofeedback monitor, a low mahogany desk, and a plush, dark leather examination sofa lined with crisp linen. The air smelled intoxicatingly of cedarwood, clean cotton, and medical antiseptic.
“Sit,” Ethan ordered gently, gesturing to the leather sofa.
Evelyn hesitated for a second before her trembling legs betrayed her. She sat down on the edge of the leather cushion, her hands tightly gripping her knees.
Ethan pulled a pair of nitrile gloves from a dispenser on the wall counter. The crisp, sharp *snap* of latex against his wrists sounded like a final hammer falling on her resistance. He walked over to a small table, picked up a bottle of warming biofeedback gel, and sat down on the sofa directly beside her.
“Lie back,” Ethan commanded softly. “Unbutton your blazer.”
Evelyn’s hands trembled as she unbuttoned her fitted navy blazer, allowing it to fall open. She lay back against the dark leather cushions, her eyes staring wide at the soft ambient lighting above. Every nerve ending in her body was screaming with hyper-awareness—she was lying in the private suite of her corporate CEO, completely at his physical mercy.
Ethan leaned over her. With practiced, clinical efficiency, he folded back the hem of her ivory silk blouse, exposing the pale skin of her lower abdomen.
The cool air of the room hit her feverish skin, making her shiver.
Ethan squeezed a small amount of clear, thermal gel onto his gloved palm. Then, he placed his broad, warm hand directly over the right side of her lower belly, right above the inflamed muscle knot.
Evelyn gasped loudly, her hips flinching off the leather sofa as a sharp flare of pain and intense heat shot through her pelvis.
“Easy,” Ethan murmured instantly. His left hand reached up, gently gripping her shoulder, pinning her softly back against the cushions. “Do not fight me, Evelyn.”
“It’s… it hurts,” she whispered, tears of pain and mortification welling in the corners of her eyes.
“I know,” Ethan’s voice softened into an extraordinarily gentle, low baritone that vibrated right next to her ear. He began to move his gloved palm in small, firm, circular motions, applying targeted pressure to the hypertonic trigger point. “In for four seconds… breathe with me.”
Ethan drew in a deep, audible breath.
Evelyn tried to match his rhythm, her chest rising against the restrictive silk of her top. “In…”
“Hold it,” Ethan ordered quietly, his gloved thumb pressing deeper into the stubborn muscle spasm, breaking down the deep tissue rigidity with exquisite precision. “Hold… now release. Slow.”
As Evelyn exhaled, she felt the stubborn, excruciating knot in her belly yield under his touch. The sharp, tearing pain transformed into a deep, radiating warmth that spread across her lower belly, melting away hours of built-up tension.
“Good,” Ethan murmured, his steel-blue eyes watching her face with intense, unblinking focus as he continued the targeted therapy. “Again. In for four… hold… release.”
For fifteen agonizing, wondrous minutes, Ethan worked over her lower abdomen. His clinical touch was relentless, possessive, and astonishingly effective. With every cycle of breath he commanded, Evelyn felt her body surrendering deeper to his authority, her initial shame melting away under the overwhelming wave of physical relief.
Her cheeks were flushed a deep crimson, her lips slightly parted as her breathing finally evened out into a deep, peaceful rhythm.
Ethan stopped his movements, leaving his gloved hand resting warm and heavy over her relaxed abdomen. He looked down at her face, his gaze lingering over her swollen lips and her dark chestnut hair spread across the dark leather cushion.
“Better?” he asked quietly.
Evelyn met his gaze, her hazel eyes heavy with lingering sensation. “Yes,” she whispered, unable to deny the truth. “The pain… it’s gone.”
Ethan stripped off his nitrile gloves, tossing them aside. But instead of pulling away, he reached out his bare hand. His long, calloused fingers reached down to gently adjust her silk blouse, smoothing the fabric over her waist before buttoning her blazer. His bare skin brushed against her stomach, sending a hot spark of pure electricity straight through her core.
He stood up, walked over to his mahogany desk, and picked up a glowing digital tablet.
“Now that your physical trauma is stabilized,” Ethan said, his tone shifting back into a hard, dangerous register, “let’s discuss the structural rot in your personal life.”
Evelyn pushed herself up into a sitting position on the sofa, her heart resuming its fast beat. “What do you mean?”
Ethan walked back to the sofa, handing her the encrypted tablet.
Evelyn looked down at the screen. Her eyes widened as she scrolled through dozens of bank statements, offshore wire transfers, and confidential corporate contracts.
“Richard Sterling,” Ethan said coldly, leaning against the edge of the sofa near her feet. “Over the past eighteen months, your ex-husband has accumulated over three million dollars in personal gambling debts to private offshore syndicates. To cover his margin calls, he has been illegally funneling funds out of Sterling Developments into shell accounts under Victoria Montgomery’s name.”
Evelyn’s breath hitched. “He… he told me his firm was expanding…”
“He lied,” Ethan sneered quietly. “And here is the capstone: three weeks ago, Richard filed a fraudulent application with the city patent registry. He attempted to put up your personal architectural patents for the coastal project as collateral for his loans.”
Evelyn froze. Horror swept through her blood. Her design patents were her life’s work—the product of five years of unremitting labor. If Richard lost those patents, her career would be completely destroyed.
“That bastard,” Evelyn whispered, her voice shaking with sudden, fierce rage. “He was going to steal everything from me.”
“He was,” Ethan agreed, his steel-blue eyes burning with a dark, predatory light. “Until Vance Global bought out Apex and acquired exclusive oversight of all related intellectual property. His patent application was flagged and seized by my legal team two hours ago.”
Evelyn looked up at him, her chest heaving with overwhelming emotion. “You stopped him?”
“I am going to annihilate him,” Ethan corrected softly, his voice dripping with absolute ruthlessness. “Vance Global’s premier legal intelligence division is filing criminal fraud, corporate embezzlement, and IP theft charges against Richard Sterling and Victoria Montgomery at eight o’clock tomorrow morning. By noon, his accounts will be frozen. By sunset, his firm will cease to exist.”
Evelyn stared at him, completely speechless. For three years, she had felt isolated, gaslit, and powerless against Richard’s psychological manipulation. Now, in the span of a single evening, Ethan Vance had dismantled her physical pain with his bare hands and laid out the complete destruction of her tormentor with a tap of his screen.
“Why are you doing this?” Evelyn asked softly, her voice trembling. “Why go to such lengths for a senior designer?”
Ethan put the tablet aside. He leaned down, placing one hand on the sofa cushion beside her hip, reducing the space between them until she was entirely wrapped in his shadow.
“Because you belong under my umbrella now, Evelyn,” Ethan declared, his deep voice carrying a terrifying, possessive weight. “And no one hurts what belongs to me.”
He reached out, his long bare fingers wrapping gently around her jaw. He lifted her chin, forcing her to look directly into his dark steel-blue eyes. His touch was firm, protective, and completely commanding.
“Here are my terms,” Ethan said quietly, his thumb brushing over her trembling lower lip. “First: you file your formal divorce petition tomorrow morning using my personal legal team. Second: you vacate that hotel tomorrow and move into a private penthouse suite I have secured for you in the city center. Third…”
He leaned down, his lips brushing against the shell of her ear as he whispered his final command.
“You will never hide your physical pain from me again. Every spasm, every ache, every tear… you bring them directly to me. Am I understood?”
Evelyn felt a shiver of profound surrender ripple through her entire body. She was stepping out of one cage, but the man holding the key to her new world was vastly more powerful, infinitely more dangerous, and consumed by an unyielding protection she could no longer resist.
“Understood… Ethan,” she whispered into the warm quiet of the penthouse.
Ethan’s dark eyes flared with satisfaction. He lowered his hand from her chin, his fingers trailing down her throat to rest over her rapid, hammering pulse.
“Good girl,” Ethan murmured softly, a dark, victorious smile finally touching his lips. “Now… let me take you home.”
