Chapter 2: The Viral Shock & Divorce

The Hidden Queen: My Husband’s Mistress Ruined My Empire 2 of 12

The words hung in the suffocating air of the Grand Ballroom like a frozen blade.

“Ethan Carter… tonight, you will learn the true cost of what you have destroyed.”

Ethan’s face twisted into an ugly mask of rage. To a man accustomed to five years of absolute submission, Natalie’s quiet, icy defiance felt like an unbearable insult. The eyes of three hundred high-society guests, corporate investors, and national journalists were glued to them, their cell phones held high, capturing every single second of the spectacle.

“You dare speak to me like that?” Ethan barked, his voice sharp with anger. He took a heavy step forward, his midnight-blue velvet tuxedo gleaming under the crystal chandeliers. “You are nothing without me, Natalie! You are a pathetic, penniless housewife who should be on her knees begging for my forgiveness! Kneel down now, or I swear to God I will ruin you!”

Beside him, Chloe Vance let out a shrill, hysterical screech of delight. The three-million-dollar teardrop diamond necklace around her neck caught the light as she stepped around Ethan, her ruby-red silk gown rustling against the floor.

“You heard him, you ugly little rat!” Chloe snarled, her face contorted with malicious triumph. “Kneel down and wipe my shoes! Beg me! Beg Ethan!”

Infuriated by Natalie’s unblinking, regal calm, Chloe lost the last shred of her self-control. Lunging forward with her manicured red nails extended, Chloe tried to grab Natalie by her damp ponytail to force her down onto the wine-stained marble floor.

Natalie didn’t flinch. She didn’t scream. With a single, fluid step, she shifted her weight slightly to the left.

Chloe’s hand snapped through thin air.

Off-balance and propelled by her own vicious momentum, Chloe’s five-inch Christian Louboutin stilettos skidded violently across the pool of spilled Château Margaux wine. She let out a sharp gasp of terror as her feet slipped out from under her. Her arms flailed frantically, her fingers catching on the velvet barrier rope surrounding the elevated stage behind her.

*CRASH!*

Chloe’s full body weight smashed straight into the heavy acrylic display pedestal. Mounted directly atop that pedestal was the evening’s flagship attraction—a custom-built, five-hundred-gallon glass aquarium filled with bio-luminescent water and five massive, wild South American electric eels.

The glass tank shuddered violently. A sound like a gunshot echoed through the ballroom as a massive spiderweb fracture split across the front pane.

“Watch out!” a security guard screamed.

*BOOM!*

The structural acrylic violently exploded outward.

Five hundred gallons of mineral-rich water erupted from the shattered tank in a roaring tidal wave, carrying five thick, thrashing, six-foot electric eels down the stage steps. The cascade slammed directly into Chloe and swept across the marble floor like a surging river, instantly engulfing Ethan where he stood.

Before anyone could move, the heavy overhead LED lighting rigging and live-broadcast power cables—ripped from their anchor posts by the falling acrylic debris—dropped straight into the expanding pool of water.

The water became an instant high-voltage electrical grid.

*BZZZZZZZZZZT!*

A blinding flash of electric-blue lightning detonated across the floor.

Chloe let out a sound that didn’t even sound human—a high-pitched, warbling shriek of pure, unadulterated agony as eight hundred volts of combined bio-electric and municipal current violently surged through her body. Her ruby-red gown sizzled and smoked. Her meticulously styled hair instantly stood up in wild, chaotic static, and her eyes rolled back into her head as her muscles locked into agonizing, violent convulsions.

Ethan tried to spring backward, but the conductive water had already soaked through his bespoke trousers and designer leather shoes.

“AAAAAGH!”

The current slammed into Ethan like a freight train. The arrogant CEO, who seconds ago had demanded his wife kneel before him, was violently yanked into a spastic dance. His legs gave out instantly, and he crashed hard onto his knees—the exact posture he had just demanded from Natalie—before collapsing flat on his belly in the murky, eel-infested water.

*SPARK! BZZZT! CRACKLE!*

“Help! Someone call an ambulance!” a socialite screamed, scrambling onto a dining table in sheer panic.

“Don’t touch the water! It’s charged! It’s charged!” an engineer yelled, frantically running for the main circuit breakers.

The ballroom descended into utter madness. Billionaires in tuxedos climbed over chairs, high-society heiresses dropped five-thousand-dollar handbags into the mud, and security guards tripped over each other in a desperate bid to reach higher ground.

Meanwhile, high above the chaotic scene, the live-stream broadcast was still running.

The media crew had set up three redundant 4K broadcast cameras linked directly to national satellite feeds and major social media networks to cover Carter Luxury’s fifth anniversary. Millions of viewers across the country—and millions more watching the viral internet stream—witnessed the entire disaster in crisp, unedited high definition.

The live chat counter surged into absolute overdrive, ticking from fifty thousand to two million viewers in less than sixty seconds.

*“IS THAT THE CEO OF CARTER LUXURY Twitching ON THE FLOOR?!”*
*“LOL HE DEMANDED HIS WIFE KNEEL AND NOW HE’S EATING DIRT IN ELECTRIC EEL WATER!”*
*“LOOK AT THE MISTRESS! HER HAIR IS ON FIRE!”*
*“WHO IS THE WOMAN STANDING THERE SO CALM?! SHE LOOKS LIKE AN EMPRESS!”*

Viral clips were clipped and posted to social media within seconds. Hashtags like `#CarterElectricShock`, `#MistressEelFail`, and `#KneelToTheQueen` exploded to the top of trending lists globally.

In the center of the roaring catastrophe, standing just three inches away from the edge of the rising waterline, was Natalie.

She stood on the first step of the elevated marble grand staircase—completely dry, completely unharmed, and utterly serene. The cool breeze from the shattered hotel doors brushed against her dark hair. She didn’t look at the chaos with fear or anger. She looked down at the writhing figures of Ethan and Chloe with the cold, detached disgust one might reserve for squirming insects in a ditch.

The main power breaker finally tripped with a heavy *THUD*, plunging the ballroom into emergency dim lighting. The electrical crackling subsided, leaving only the sound of moaning, dripping water, and thrashing eels.

Ethan lay on his stomach, shivering uncontrollably from nerve spasms. His midnight-blue velvet suit was soaked in foul, fishy water, covered in slime, and stained with red wine. He coughed violently, spitting up a mouthful of dirty water, his muscles twitching as he struggled to lift his head. Beside him, Chloe lay face-down, her three-million-dollar necklace tangled in a clump of floating artificial seaweed, weeping hysterically into the wet marble.

Ethan’s blurred vision focused on a pair of immaculate, pale feet stepping toward the edge of the water.

Slowly, effortlessly, Natalie reached into her simple leather clutch. She didn’t pull out a tissue. She didn’t pull out a phone to call for help.

She pulled out a crisp, thick stack of legal parchment—a pre-drafted, unconditional Divorce Agreement.

The paper was pristine, bearing the official gold-embossed seal of the high court. Attached to it was an antique Montblanc fountain pen with a solid platinum nib.

With steady, elegant grace, Natalie unsealed the pen. She placed the document against the polished wooden balustrade of the staircase and signed her name on the plaintiff’s line with bold, decisive strokes:

*Natalie Sinclair.*

Ethan’s eyes widened in sheer, frozen horror as his gaze caught the letters inked upon the paper.

*Sinclair.*

The nerve spasms racking his body suddenly felt faint compared to the icy claw of dread that tore through his chest. His heart practically stopped beating.

“S… Sinclair…?” Ethan rasped, his voice trembling violently, choked with water and shock. “N-Natalie… what… what is that name…?”

Natalie capped her pen with a quiet, satisfying *click*. She held up the signed divorce document, letting the ambient emergency light illuminate the bold text for the remaining press cameras to capture.

“You called me a useless housewife tonight, Ethan,” Natalie said softly. Her voice wasn’t loud, yet it carried across the dead silence of the ballroom with terrifying clarity. “You told the world that I contributed zero to Carter Luxury. You boasted that you built an eight-hundred-million-dollar empire through your own grit, foresight, and ambition.”

Ethan struggled onto his elbows, his knees slipping in the slime. “Natalie… please…”

“Five years ago, when your leather workshop was three days away from bankruptcy, who do you think authorized the forty-million-dollar unsecured line of credit from Sinclair Capital?” Natalie asked, her eyes narrowing into two sharp daggers of ice. “When the European silk consortium refused to even meet with a nobody like you, who do you think signed the executive order instructing the Sinclair-owned fashion houses to give you exclusive distribution rights?”

Ethan’s breath hitched. His face turned as white as a bedsheet.

“N-No… no, that was… that was an anonymous institutional investor…” Ethan stammered, his mind racing, pulling at fragments of memories he had suppressed for years. “The Sinclair Group… they… they never deal with small companies…”

“They don’t,” Natalie replied coldly. “Unless the sole heiress of the Sinclair Financial Group asks them to.”

A collective gasp echoed across the ballroom. The surviving reporters scrambled to their feet, their eyes bulging out of their heads.

*The Sinclair Financial Group!*

The single largest banking dynasty in North America and Europe, holding assets worth over four hundred billion dollars! The family that owned commercial ports, global shipping lines, central bank debt, and sovereign wealth funds!

The quiet, plain woman in the eighty-dollar polyester dress… was the ultimate heiress of the Sinclair empire!

“You thought I married you for your money?” Natalie let out a low, bitter laugh that cut Ethan deeper than any blade. “Ethan, your entire company isn’t worth a single day’s interest on my family’s private trust. I hid my name because I loved you. I wanted a simple life. I cooked for you, cleaned for you, and quietly poured my family’s wealth into your pockets so you could feel like a king.”

Chloe, moaning on the floor, froze mid-sob, her blood-shot eyes staring up at Natalie in sheer, unadulterated horror.

“And how did you repay me?” Natalie continued, stepping down to the very edge of the staircase. “You took my sacrifices and gave them to a cheap, ambitious mistress. You paraded her around in diamonds paid for with my family’s capital. And tonight, you demanded that I kneel before her on the floor.”

“Natalie! I didn’t know! I swear I didn’t know!” Ethan cried out, terror completely overriding the agonizing pain in his muscles. He began crawling forward through the dirty water, reaching out a trembling, mud-caked hand toward her shoes. “I was blind! I was foolish! Chloe tricked me! It was all her! Please, Natalie… we’re husband and wife! We can fix this!”

“Husband and wife?”

Natalie looked down at his outstretched hand with pure, unmitigated scorn.

Slowly, she raised her left hand. On her ring finger sat a simple, thin silver band—a twenty-dollar wedding ring Ethan had bought at a street kiosk five years ago.

She pinched the ring between her thumb and forefinger. With a firm, deliberate twist, she pulled the silver band off her skin.

“Ethan Carter, as of this second, Carter Luxury Group’s credit lines are frozen,” Natalie announced calmly, her voice ringing out like a death sentence. “The European silk licenses are revoked. The Sinclair capital guarantees are canceled. By nine o’clock tomorrow morning, your stock will crash to zero. Creditors will seize your headquarters, your penthouses, and your luxury cars.”

“No… NO! NATALIE, PLEASE!” Ethan screamed, tears finally bursting from his eyes as he clawed at the wet marble. “DON’T DO THIS TO ME! I BEG YOU!”

Natalie didn’t blink. She held the silver ring directly over the puddle where Ethan lay shivering.

“You wanted me to leave with nothing but the clothes on my back?” Natalie whispered. “Keep the ring. It’s the only thing you ever truly gave me.”

She opened her fingers.

*PLINK.*

The silver band plummeted through the air and splashed directly into the murky water, landing right next to Ethan’s twitching, mud-soaked fingers. A tiny spark of residual electric charge popped against the silver metal before fading into darkness.

Natalie threw the signed divorce papers onto the dry top step of the staircase, right in front of the primary broadcast camera.

“Send the final decree to my attorneys,” she said without turning around.

She turned her back on Ethan Carter. She turned her back on Chloe Vance. She turned her back on the ruined ballroom, the flickering lights, and the gasping, terrified socialites.

With her head held high and her posture absolute, Natalie Sinclair walked toward the grand exit of the Grand Regent Hotel.

As she stepped through the shattered glass doors into the cool night air, the sky broke into a sudden, heavy downpour of rain. But Natalie didn’t get wet.

Waiting in the hotel courtyard was a line of six obsidian-black, armored Maybach sedans, their engines idling softly in the dark. Standing outside the lead vehicle were eight tall men in sharp charcoal suits, holding wide black umbrellas to form a dry canopy over the walkway.

At the head of the security detail stood an elderly, dignified man with silver hair and immaculate white gloves—Sebastian, the Chief Butler of the Sinclair Estate.

As Natalie approached, Sebastian bowed deeply at a ninety-degree angle, opening the rear door of the flagship Maybach.

“Welcome back, Lady Sinclair,” Sebastian said, his voice filled with profound respect. “The aircraft is prepped at the private airfield. Your father and the Board of Directors are waiting in the boardroom in New York. The liquidation orders for Carter Luxury Group have already been drafted.”

Natalie paused at the door of the car. She looked back one last time at the glowing, chaotic entrance of the hotel, where distant sirens were beginning to wail through the night.

A slow, cold, beautiful smile touched her lips.

“Tell the board to proceed with total liquidation, Sebastian,” Natalie commanded softly, stepping into the leather interior of the Maybach. “Leave them without a single penny.”

“Understood, My Lady.”

The heavy Maybach door clicked shut with a reassuring sound of absolute luxury. The motorcade pulled out of the courtyard, its red taillights cutting through the rainy darkness as it whisked the true queen away from the empire she had destroyed—and back to the throne where she belonged.
