Chapter 2: The Viral Shock & Divorce
The ballroom atmosphere turned suffocatingly tense. Hundreds of smartphones and live-stream cameras were pointed directly at Natalie, capturing every second of her public humiliation.
“Get on your knees, Natalie,” Ethan repeated, his voice biting and merciless. “Show some gratitude for the life I gave you.”
Natalie didn’t flinch. She slowly lifted her head. Her dark eyes, usually soft and accommodating, were now cold as black ice. A quiet, terrifying aura radiated from her posture.
“Gratitude?” Natalie spoke, her voice surprisingly steady, echoing through the silent hall. “You think you gave me a life, Ethan?”
Chloe sneered, stepping closer to a large, five-hundred-gallon glass aquarium installed near the stage. The tank, decorated with golden reef corals, housed several giant Amazonian electric eels—part of Carter Luxury’s bizarre “elemental silk” marketing spectacle.
“Stop giving speeches, you pathetic charity case!” Chloe barked, swinging her diamond-ringed hand to slap Natalie across the face. “Kneel!”
Natalie didn’t move an inch. As Chloe’s hand swung forward, Natalie stepped back with fluid grace.
Chloe lost her footing in her six-inch stilettos. She stumbled backward violently, her heavy jewel-encrusted elbow smashing squarely into the reinforced glass wall of the electric eel aquarium!
CRACK! SHATTER!
A sound like a cannon shot exploded through the ballroom. The giant glass pane shattered completely.
Five hundred gallons of salt water, heavy gravel, and four massive, thrashing electric eels burst out of the tank in a violent tidal wave, crashing directly over Chloe and Ethan!
“AAAGHH!” Chloe shrieked as 600 volts of high-voltage bio-electricity surged through her wet ruby dress. Her diamond necklace sparked, her styled hair stood straight up in a ridiculous afro, and she collapsed onto the muddy floor, twitching uncontrollably.
Ethan tried to scramble away, but a thrashing eel landed squarely across his chest.
BZZZZZZZZZT!
Blue electrical arcs danced across Ethan’s bespoke tuxedo. His eyes rolled back, his body convulsing in rhythm with the electric shocks as he sputtered salt water and collapsed beside Chloe on live television!
The million online viewers watching the livestream exploded into millions of comments:
【OMG! The CEO and his mistress got electrocuted by eels!】
【Karma is a real-time stream! Look at their hair!】
Amidst the screaming crowd, security guards running in panic, and flashing cameras, Natalie remained completely untouched. The water had stopped inches from her feet.
Natalie reached into her black leather clutch bag. She pulled out a sleek silver fountain pen and a velvet folder containing a pair of prepared legal documents.
She opened the folder, signed her name with a sharp, flawless stroke at the bottom—Natalie Sinclair—and knelt beside the twitching, semi-conscious Ethan.
She unpinned her simple gold wedding ring from her hand and tossed it into the puddle of eel water right next to Ethan’s cheek.
“Ethan Carter,” Natalie whispered, her voice cold enough to freeze blood. “Five years ago, I gave you my heart and built your empire. Today, you threw it in the trash.”
She slapped the signed divorce papers onto Ethan’s wet chest.
“We are divorced. And as of this minute… your empire is dead.”
Without turning back, Natalie turned her spine straight, stepped over the shattered glass, and walked out of the ballroom into the night.
