Chapter 6: Rise of the Prometheus-00

Scrap Heap Mech King: Rise of the Natural 6 of 6

The heavy blast doors separating Sector 9 from the Spire-01 transit corridor did not merely open.

They exploded.

Ten tons of reinforced blast-alloy were torn from their hydraulic hinges, sent tumbling through the air like discarded sheets of tin before crashing into the plaza and crushing a pack of charging alien bio-beasts into purple paste.

Through the roaring wall of smoke, fire, and burning debris stepped a machine forged in the fires of human defiance.

The **Prometheus-00** was a fifteen-meter titan of rust-red dreadnought armor and blackened steel. Its massive chest was framed by thick, exposed hydraulic pistons that hissed with superheated steam. Dual chemical-fusion turbines mounted across its broad shoulders burned with roaring plumes of white-hot exhaust, and its head—a brutal, angular helm forged from salvaged battleship prow plating—glowed with two narrow, blazing crimson optical visors.

Unlike the pristine, paralyzed Paladin mechs that littered the field, the Prometheus-00 was completely immune to the Hive Mother’s electromagnetic pulse.

Inside its chest, there were no fragile digital micro-chips to burn, no wireless cloud relays to sever, and no neural ports to overload the pilot’s brain. Every signal was carried through thick, lead-insulated copper cables, heavy mechanical relays, and high-pressure hydraulic fluid lines.

And in the pilot’s seat, strapped tight into the analog bio-harmonic harness, sat Orion Solari—his hands gripping the heavy steel flight yokes, his unaugmented heart pounding with the raw, unyielding fury of pure human instinct.

“Lyra, report,” Orion’s voice crackled through the analog radio headset.

From the mobile salvage command rig at the edge of the breach, Lyra’s voice came back clear and fierce: “All Modified units in Spire-01 are completely neutralized, Orion! The Vanguard is wiped out, and the Hive Vanguard leader is about to breach your brother’s cockpit! You’re the only operational combat frame in the entire hemisphere!”

“Understood,” Orion said, slamming the primary turbine throttle to maximum. “Engaging.”

The Prometheus-00 bent its massive, steel-reinforced knees. The twin chemical thrusters on its back roared like a falling star, launching the forty-ton iron behemoth forward in a blinding, ground-shattering sprint.

The three-story-tall Hive Vanguard beast that stood atop Kassius’s disabled Alpha Paladin barely had time to turn its head.

*BOOOOOOM!*

The Prometheus-00 closed the two-hundred-meter distance in three thunderous strides. Orion’s right mechanical fist, reinforced with a three-foot solid tungsten pile-bunker piston, drove straight into the alien commander’s chest carapace.

At the exact instant of impact, Orion pulled the secondary trigger on his right flight yoke.

*CRACK-BOOOOOM!*

A four-inch explosive propellant charge detonated behind the tungsten spike. The pneumatic pile-bunker punched clean through the alien beast’s diamond-hard chitin armor, blasting its internal bio-core into an explosive geyser of smoking purple slime that splattered across the cracked marble walls of the amphitheater.

The gargantuan bio-beast collapsed backward, dead before its carcass hit the ground.

Inside his shattered cockpit, Kassius stared through his cracked viewport, his one remaining natural eye wide with disbelieving shock.

The massive, flame-scarred rust titan stood directly over him, shielding the fallen Paladin from the swarming sea of bio-monsters with its broad, impenetrable iron back.

The Prometheus-00 reached over its shoulder with its left arm, drawing a colossal six-meter thermal broadsword from its magnetic spine sheath. As Orion engaged the blade’s chemical-ignition switch, the thick titanium edge ignited with a blinding three-thousand-degree plasma arc that bathed the burning ruins in incandescent crimson light.

“Incoming swarm from the eastern flank—three hundred bio-scythes closing fast!” Lyra shouted through the comms.

“Let them come,” Orion whispered.

The Prometheus-00 swung the burning thermal broadsword in a horizontal, three-hundred-sixty-degree cleave. The arc of superheated plasma sliced through a dozen charging alien beasts simultaneously, severing chitin armor and flesh like a hot razor through silk.

Orion did not rely on predictive algorithms; he moved with the fluid, brutal rhythm of a master swordsman who felt the balance and momentum of his machine in his own muscle memory.

A flying bio-spitter dove toward the titan’s cockpit from above. Without looking, Orion fired the left-shoulder pneumatic harpoon launcher. The heavy steel cable harpoon skewered the flying monster in mid-air, and with a single backward heave of the Prometheus’s left arm, Orion slammed the beast into the pavement and crushed its skull beneath the titan’s iron boot.

Step by step, swing by swing, the scrap titan carved a mountain of smoking alien corpses in the center of Spire-01.

Every surviving citizen hiding in the fortified shelters, every council member staring through security perimeters, and every paralyzed Modified pilot watched in breathless, awe-struck silence as a single unaugmented machine dismantled the very horde that had brought the Citadel to its knees.

When the immediate perimeter was cleared of swarm beasts, the Prometheus-00 turned its glowing crimson gaze down toward the disabled Alpha Paladin.

With terrifying precision, the giant mech reached down and gently peeled away the buckled cockpit canopy of the white mech, exposing Kassius to the cold, smoke-filled air.

Kassius looked up at the towering rust titan, trembling with shame, terror, and overwhelming disbelief.

“Who… who are you?” Kassius choked out, blood dripping from his lips. “What kind of machine is this…?”

The external loudspeaker grilles on the chest of the Prometheus-00 hummed with analog static. Then, a familiar voice echoed across the devastated plaza—calm, deep, and unshakable:

“You said Naturals were obsolete, Kassius.”

Kassius’s breath caught in his throat as the cockpit hatch of the Prometheus-00 cracked open slightly, revealing Orion’s face through the armored glass—calm, sweat-streaked, his dark eyes burning with unbroken resolve.

“You said unaugmented flesh was an embarrassment to the Solari line,” Orion continued, his voice ringing across the silent amphitheater. “You broke our father’s crest. You threw me into the dirt to die. And yet, when your cold algorithms failed and your silicon gods went dark… look at who is standing between you and the grave.”

Kassius could only stare, completely broken, tears of humiliation mixing with the blood on his cheeks. He had no words. His flawless logic, his elite status, his supreme technology—all of it lay in pieces at his brother’s feet.

A cataclysmic roar suddenly shook the heavens.

Across the shattered city horizon, the colossal ninety-meter form of the **Scythe Hive Mother** turned its towering, crescent-crowned head toward the center of the amphitheater. The ancient cosmic predator locked its gaze upon the Prometheus-00, sensing for the first time on this planet an enemy that could not be enslaved by its psychic screams.

Inside the cockpit of the Prometheus-00, Orion sealed his visor hatch once more. He drew his father’s broken titanium crest from his pocket and pressed it firmly into the center of the pilot’s dashboard.

“Lyra, reroute all reserve coolant to the primary combustion turbines,” Orion said, his hand gripping the thermal broadsword. “We have a mother to put in the ground.”

The Prometheus-00 ignited its twin rocket boosters, letting out a deafening, metallic battle-roar that echoed across the ruins of Megacity Aegis-7.

The outcast Natural who was thrown into the scrap heap had returned.

And humanity had found its Mech King.
