Chapter 2: The Secret Revealed

Alpha, You Have A Secret Cub! 2 of 6

Scene 1: The Standoff at the Royal Gate

The plaza descended into an absolute, suffocating silence.

Where moments before the heavy clatter of armored hooves and the low rumble of the gathering crowd had filled the misty air, now there was only the sharp, ringing stillness left in the wake of Alpha Kael’s command.

“Halt. That boy stays.”

The words had not merely been spoken; they had carried the full, crushing weight of an Alpha King’s acoustic pressure. Royal guards froze mid-step, their silver-plated spears locked in place. The crowd of merchants and townsfolk instinctively recoiled, lowering their heads as their inner wolves whined beneath the heavy aura radiating from the sovereign mount.

Seraphina’s pulse thundered against her ribs like a trapped bird. Instinctively, she pulled Leo behind the heavy folds of her worn, rain-soaked traveling cloak. Her fingers tightened around his small shoulders, her knuckles turning bone-white.

Underneath the thick layers of herbal masking oils she had meticulously rubbed onto her skin before entering the capital, her true scent began to bleed through—a delicate, haunting bloom of serene white lotus laced with the electric crispness of ozone. It was the scent of a storm rising over a quiet sanctuary.

And Kael smelled it instantly.

The towering Alpha dismounted from his dark warhorse in one fluid, deadly motion. Leather armor creaked as his 6’3″ frame cut through the swirling fog. His jaw was sculpted like iron, his dark obsidian hair damp with rain, but it was his eyes that locked Seraphina in place—intense, predatory pools of hazel that flared with sudden, molten gold.

“Seraphina…”

The name left his lips not as an Alpha’s decree, but as a ragged, disbelieving whisper. Five years. Five agonizing years of searching through edge-lands, rogue territories, and abandoned border towns. Five years of waking in the dead of night with the phantom scent of lotus on his pillow and an empty void in his chest where his fated bond belonged.

“My Lord Alpha?” High Commander Valerius stepped forward, his hand resting cautiously on the pommel of his broadsword as his eyes darted to the veiled woman and the child. “Are these rogues breaching the perimeter? Should we detain them for questioning?”

“Back down, Valerius,” Kael growled, his baritone vibrating in the marrow of everyone present. “Clear the plaza. Secure the inner gates. No one approaches.”

“Sire—”

“Now!”

Valerius bowed instantly, barked orders to the royal patrol, and began ushering the bewildered crowd away from the marble thoroughfare. Within seconds, the space around them cleared, leaving only Kael, Seraphina, and the small child trembling against her legs.

Seraphina lifted her chin, fighting down the tremor in her knees. Five years of surviving in the unforgiving human outskirts had tempered her fear into cold, sharp steel. She kept her hood pulled low, casting her face in shadow, but her violet-blue eyes burned through the dark.

“We are merely passing travelers, Alpha,” Seraphina said, her voice steady and restrained, though her heart pounded against her chest. “We sought herbs from the lower market. We mean no harm to your realm. Allow us to leave.”

“Leave?” Kael took a slow, deliberate step forward, his leather boots crunching on the wet marble. His gaze dropped from her face down to the small hands clutching her skirt. “You think you can walk back into my capital after half a decade… and walk away again?”

Before Seraphina could answer, a tiny head peeked out from behind her cloak.

Leo narrowed his eyes at the giant man standing before them. His dark messy curls bounced as he shifted his stance, his tiny fists balled at his sides. In his left hand, he held tight to his carved wooden wolf. Despite the towering shadow Kael cast over him, the five-year-old boy did not shrink back.

“Don’t yell at my Mommy!” Leo’s high-pitched voice echoed across the stones, defiant and clear.

Kael stopped dead in his tracks.

As Leo spoke, his emotional surge triggered something deep within his blood. The boy’s pupils dilated, and in a heartbeat, his hazel eyes ignited—bursting into a brilliant, luminescent royal gold that mirrored Kael’s own.

Kael’s breath caught in his throat. His wolf howled within his mind, a deafening sound of absolute recognition. The golden eyes. The unmistakable royal wolf pressure vibrating off the small boy’s frame.

It was not just a resemblance. It was his blood.

Scene 2: Into the Royal Citadel

“Inside. Now.”

Kael didn’t wait for Seraphina’s consent. He didn’t offer a debate. With a single gesture of his hand, a dozen elite guards formed a tight perimeter around them, guiding—and subtly forcing—Seraphina and Leo through the gilded iron gates of the Royal Silvermoon Citadel.

Seraphina kept her arm firmly wrapped around Leo’s chest as they crossed the vast courtyard lined with silver wolf banners. Every instinct screamed at her to turn, to shift, to unleash her dormant power and flee into the dark alleyways. But she was outnumbered, surrounded by royal guards trained to hunt rogues, and above all, she had Leo to protect. A fight here would put her son in direct danger.

“Mommy,” Leo whispered, peering up at the towering marble archways and glowing crystal sconces lining the corridor. “Is this a castle?”

“Hush, Leo,” Seraphina whispered back, her voice barely a breath. “Stay close to me. Don’t let go of my hand.”

“I won’t,” Leo said quietly, though his eyes sparkled with irrepressible curiosity as he spotted the carved silver wolf heads along the pillars. “The big wolf man has eyes like mine, Mommy. Is he the King?”

Seraphina’s throat tightened, unable to answer.

They were led into the Alpha’s private sanctuary—a sprawling council chamber crafted from dark polished mahogany and white marble, anchored by a grand hearth where a fire crackled softly. High arched windows overlooked the mist-shrouded mountain peaks of Mount Silverhorn.

The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind them, sealing out the guards.

Kael stripped off his heavy leather riding cloak, tossing it onto a side table. He turned to face them, his obsidian hair falling over his forehead, his jaw tightly set. The intense pine wood and wild orchid scent of his Alpha aura filled the room, wrapping around Seraphina like a warm, inescapable magnetic pull.

“Five years, Seraphina,” Kael said, his voice dropping into a low, dangerous rumble. He walked toward her until only a few feet separated them. “Five years ago, you vanished from my bed after the Blood Moon eclipse. You left without a word, without a trace. I searched every territory from the Sunfang canyons to the northern tundra.”

“I did what I had to do to survive,” Seraphina replied coldly, keeping her eyes fixed on his. “I was an unranked stray. Your pack elders would have hunted me down the moment they realized what happened that night. A stray wolf has no place in the royal court, Kael.”

“You were not just any stray!” Kael roared, the sound rattling the crystal wine glasses on the side table. He mastered his temper with a sharp intake of breath, his eyes softening as he looked down at the boy. “And him? Who is he?”

Seraphina pulled Leo tighter against her leg. “He is my son.”

“His eyes, Seraphina!” Kael demanded, stepping closer, his voice strained with raw emotion. “Look at him! The royal golden eyes are not a random trick of nature. They belong exclusively to the sovereign lineage of the Silvermoon Alpha! He carries my blood. He is my son!”

“He is five years old,” Seraphina shot back, her protective maternal instincts flaring. Her violet eyes flashed with a hint of molten silver. “I raised him alone! In damp basements, in human cities, hiding from pack hunters while you sat on your throne! You have no claim over him!”

Before Kael could respond, the double doors of the chamber swung open with dramatic flair.

“Kael! What is the meaning of this commotion at the gates?”

Princess Lyra of the Sunfang Clan glided into the room. She was clad in a sweeping gown of fiery crimson silk, her golden hair impeccably styled, her manicured claws painted blood-red. Her ice-blue eyes scanned the room, instantly landing on Seraphina’s worn traveling clothes and the small boy hiding behind her.

A look of intense disgust flashed across Lyra’s face.

“Who allowed these filthy rogues into the royal quarters?” Lyra sneered, her voice dripping with artificial outrage. “Kael, darling, the pack elders are already whispering. You cannot bring street strays into the citadel right before the Royal Assembly!”

Kael didn’t even turn his head toward her. His eyes remained locked on Seraphina and Leo.

“Out, Lyra.”

Lyra blinked, startled by the icy steel in his voice. “What? Kael, I am your betrothed-designate! The Sunfang Clan has already signed the provisional alliance—”

“I said out,” Kael growled, his Alpha Command sweeping through the room like a physical wave.

Lyra stumbled back half a step, her face flushing crimson with humiliation and rage. She glared at Seraphina, her sharp blue eyes narrowing as she noticed the child’s dark curly hair and the unmistakable golden sheen lingering in his gaze. A cold jolt of panic struck Lyra’s heart.

A child? No… it can’t be.

“Valerius!” Kael called out.

The High Commander immediately opened the door from the hallway. “Yes, Alpha?”

“Summon High Priest Eldrin to the Silvermoon Sanctuary,” Kael ordered, his voice echoing with absolute finality. “Prepare the sacred Royal Bloodline Altar. We conduct the test immediately.”

Lyra’s breath hitched. “A bloodline test? For a stray’s bastard?”

Kael turned his head slightly, his gaze cold enough to freeze blood. “If you utter another insult toward my son or his mother, Lyra, not even your father’s army will save you from my claws. Leave.”

Lyra clenched her red-painted claws into her palms, her eyes burning with murderous fury as she backed out of the room, slamming the heavy doors behind her.

Scene 3: The Sacred Royal Bloodline Ceremony

The Silvermoon Sanctuary was ancient, carved directly into the living granite of Mount Silverhorn.

Thick obsidian pillars rose toward a vaulted ceiling that opened to the night sky, allowing the faint light of the moon to filter through the cool mist. At the center of the chamber stood the Bloodline Altar—a basin of carved white moonstone resting atop glowing ancient runes.

A dozen High Elders of the Silvermoon Council stood along the perimeter in dark blue robes, whispering anxiously among themselves. At the front of the altar stood High Priest Eldrin, a venerable wolf with long silver hair and eyes wise with centuries of pack lore.

Lyra stood near the back shadows of the gallery, her hands clenched tightly within her silk sleeves, her heart hammering against her ribs. It must fail, she prayed dark, bitter prayers to whatever spirits would listen. If that boy is proven royal, my six years of scheming will be destroyed in a single night!

Seraphina stood beside the altar, holding Leo’s hand. Her heart pounded against her ribs. She looked at Kael, who stood on the opposite side of the moonstone basin, his broad chest rising and falling heavily.

“Seraphina,” Kael said softly, his voice stripped of all regal posture. “If he is my son… let the stone speak the truth. He deserves his true birthright. He deserves to be protected by the entire Silvermoon pack.”

“Protected?” Seraphina whispered back, her voice laced with bitter memories. “Or used as a pawn in your court’s political games? I brought him here for medicine, Kael. Not for a crown.”

Leo looked up at his mother, sensing the tension in her aura. He squeezed her fingers gently. “Mommy, am I going to do a test?”

Seraphina knelt down, tucking a loose curl behind his ear. “Just a tiny prick of your finger, my sweet cub. Are you scared?”

Leo shook his dark head, puffing out his small chest. “No! I’m brave. I’m your little wolf bodyguard!”

High Priest Eldrin stepped forward, bowing deeply to Kael and then to Seraphina. He held a small silver needle enchanted with lunar runes and a crystal vial of consecrated moon-water.

“By the witness of the Moon Goddess and the blood of the ancestors,” Eldrin intoned, his deep voice filling the sacred hall. “Let the royal stone judge the lineage of the young wolf.”

Eldrin gently took Leo’s tiny hand. Leo winced slightly as the tip of the silver needle pricked his middle finger, but he didn’t cry out. A single, dark crimson drop of blood welled at his fingertip.

Eldrin guided the drop of blood over the center of the white moonstone basin.

Drop.

The crimson bead touched the smooth surface of the stone.

For one second, two seconds… nothing happened.

Lyra let out a breathless, triumphant smirk in the shadows. “Impostor…” she whispered under her breath.

Then—the stone began to hum.

A low, deep vibration shook the granite floor beneath their feet. The ancient wolf runes carved into the obsidian pillars began to glow, igniting one by one with a brilliant, blinding radiance.

FLASH!

A column of pure, molten gold light erupted from the moonstone basin, shooting straight toward the vaulted ceiling and bathing the entire sanctuary in a magnificent, blinding glare! The light flared with such intensity that the elders gasped, shielding their eyes in shock.

Within the golden pillar of light, the ethereal shadow of a massive, roaring royal wolf manifested, throwing back its head and howling a silent, majestic song of divine recognition.

High Priest Eldrin fell to his knees, his hands trembling as he stared at the altar.

“One hundred percent!” Eldrin cried out, his voice shaking with awe. “Pure, unbroken Royal Silvermoon Alpha blood! The boy… the boy is the trueborn Crown Heir of Alpha Kael!”

The sanctuary erupted into hushed shouts and gasps. The High Elders immediately dropped to one knee, bowing their heads toward the small child standing at the altar.

Lyra’s face turned ghostly white. Her body trembled with suppressed rage as her blood ran cold. The proof was absolute. Unassailable. Sacred.

Scene 4: An Alpha’s Sacred Vow

The blinding golden light gradually receded, settling into a soft, warm glow that lingered around Leo’s small body like a protective blanket.

Kael did not wait another moment. He stepped past the High Priest, ignoring the kneeling elders and the whispers of the court. He dropped to both knees directly in front of Leo.

For the first time in five years, the ruthless, iron-willed Sovereign Alpha of Silvermoon looked vulnerable. His golden eyes glistened with unshed tears of raw paternal pride and profound emotional relief.

Leo blinked, looking down at the giant man kneeling before him. Tentatively, the five-year-old reached out his small hand and touched Kael’s cheek.

“You really do have eyes like mine,” Leo said quietly, his voice filled with childlike wonder. “Are you… my Daddy?”

The word hit Kael like a physical blow, shattering the last remaining walls around his heart. He gently wrapped his large hand over Leo’s small fingers, holding them against his cheek.

“Yes, my brave little cub,” Kael whispered, his baritone thick with emotion. “I am your father. And I will never let anyone hurt you or hide you away again.”

Kael rose to his full height, holding Leo securely against his broad chest. Leo wrapped his small arms around Kael’s neck, resting his chin on his father’s armored shoulder while still keeping an eye on Seraphina.

Kael turned to face the gathered elders, his Beta, and the pale, trembling Princess Lyra.

“Hear my decree!” Kael’s Alpha Command reverberated through the ancient sanctuary, echoing off every stone pillar. “Leo is my trueborn son and the sole Crown Prince of the Royal Silvermoon Realm! Any threat against his life or status is an act of high treason against the throne!”

He turned his fierce, possessive gaze back to Seraphina.

Seraphina stood frozen beneath the weight of his gaze. She saw the fierce protection in his eyes, the deep, undeniable longing of their fated mate bond throbbing between them like a living pulse. Yet, deep inside her soul, the ghost of her five years in exile whispered warnings. Palace life was a snake pit. The elders who now bowed to Leo were the same wolves who would have condemned her as a stray.

Kael walked over to her, standing so close she could feel the heat radiating from his body.

“And as for his mother,” Kael declared publicly, his voice ringing with absolute authority that echoed into every corner of the room, “Seraphina will reside in the Royal Wing under my personal protection. No power in this realm—no elder, no clan, and no army—will ever drive her from my side again.”

Seraphina met his eyes, her violet-blue gaze holding a storm of guarded emotion. “This court is dangerous, Kael. Secrets don’t stay hidden here.”

“Then let them try to touch you,” Kael whispered low, his golden eyes flaring with lethal possessiveness. “My wolf recognized you six years ago, Seraphina. I lost you once. I will tear this realm apart before I let you go again.”

In the dark shadows at the back of the sanctuary, Princess Lyra slipped away unnoticed. Her red-painted claws dug into her palms so hard that dark blood trickled onto her red silk sleeves.

You think you’ve won, stray? Lyra thought, her eyes glittering with venomous dark magic. Enjoy your royal quarters while you can. Because before the Royal Welcoming Feast is over, both you and your little bastard will be buried in the dirt!
