Chapter 6: The Banquet of Blood & Triumph
One month after the dramatic arrest at Mount Sol, the Grand Sunfire Palace was decorated not for a royal wedding, but for the Victory and Coronation Banquet of Solaria.
The corrupt factions that had backed Prince Caspian were stripped of their titles and land. Caspian himself was stripped of his royal lineage and sentenced to lifelong exile in the frozen mines of the Far North. Mara, stripped of her royal engagement privileges, retired to a quiet, distant family estate in the countryside, living out her days in quiet solitude, forever reflecting on her shortsighted choices.
Inside the lotus hall—the very hall where Sara had been poisoned in her past life—a grand feast was laid out. Golden chandeliers cast brilliant light across marble floors, soft music echoed from court harps, and hundreds of high noblemen and foreign ambassadors bowed respectfully as the royal procession began.
The Emperor, aged and seeking peace, officially announced the appointment of Regent Duke Valerius as the Grand Protector and Supreme Sovereign of Solaria’s governance, with Duchess Sara Vance co-ruling beside him as the Realm’s Chief Administrator.
The herald’s voice rang across the hall:
“All rise for His Grace, Grand Protector Duke Valerius, and Her Grace, Grand Duchess Sara!”
The heavy mahogany doors swung open.
Sara walked into the hall, her heart calm and filled with a profound sense of triumph.
She wore a magnificent ceremonial gown of royal midnight velvet, embroidered with silver dragons and phoenixes that shimmered like stars. On her head rested a delicate crown of silver filigree and deep blue sapphires. Her stride was regal, her gaze brilliant and steady.
Beside her walked Valerius. Dressed in immaculate formal black and silver state robes, his broad shoulders squared and his dark eyes fixed protectively on Sara, he looked every bit the powerful sovereign of the empire.
As they walked down the red carpet toward the twin thrones, Sara paused for a brief moment, looking down at the marble floor where she had once spilled her blood in her past life.
The wine of ashes was gone. The poison was erased. In its place stood an empire reborn under her guidance.
Valerius noticed her momentary pause. He turned to her, stepping close, and gently took her hand in his. His warm, strong fingers intertwined with hers, anchoring her in the present.
“Sara?” Valerius whispered softly, his dark eyes filled with deep, unspoken devotion. “Are you alright?”
Sara looked up at him, a radiant, beautiful smile blooming across her face.
“I am more than alright, Valerius,” Sara answered, her voice filled with warmth and absolute certainty. “I am home.”
Valerius smiled—a genuine, breathtaking smile that stunned the watching court noblemen who had never seen the formidable Regent smile in his life.
He lifted her hand to his lips, kissing the Obsidian Dragon Ring on her finger.
“Together, we rule,” Valerius murmured against her skin.
“Together,” Sara agreed softly.
They turned together to face the cheering court, sitting upon the twin thrones of Solaria. Sara looked out over the grand hall, knowing that she had not only survived the nest of vipers—she had rewritten her destiny, reclaimed her honor, and found a love forged in the fires of absolute trust.
The Sisters’ Gambit was complete. And the Grand Duchess had won the crown.
